Back to Areas of Interest Philosophy of Athletics Athletics is part of the total education program at Northview. We realize not everyone can qualify as a participant, but we do realize everyone can benefit from the program. The criteria upon which our program is judged are as follows: 1. Interscholastic participation is a privlege not a right. 2. Participation in athletics is for those who have outstanding physical skills in the respective sport. 3. Success of the program is not determined by the won or loss record. 4. School and community values should be evident throughout the program 5. The school and its community are identified by the publicity generated through its athletic program. 6. The coaching staff, athletes, student body, and adult followers should never act in a manner that would be detrimental to the name of Northview Public Schools. Back to Areas of Interest Sportsmanship Players and Coaches: Players and coaches shall at all times represent themselves and Northview with honor, proper conduct, and good sportsmanship. They shall understand that competitive rivalries are encouraged but that disrespect for opponents is un-sportsmanlike and lessens the value of the rivalries. They shall confine the competitiveness of the game to the field, and in particular behave properly on the sidelines and in the locker rooms both before and after games. In no way, either by voice, action, or gesture, shall they demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the decisions made. They must never forget that they represent their school. Back to Areas of Interest Attendance/Vacation Coaches must be notified, either by the athlete or a parent/guardian, whenever an athlete will miss practice. Missing practices or games without good reason is a serious matter and will result in disciplinary action. Athletes must be in school for the entire day in order to be eligible to compete in a scheduled athletic contest or practice. In extreme situations, arrangements must be made with the building Principal and or the Athletic Director to acquire an excused absence. Schedule appointments are an acceptable reason to be pre-excused. Before pursuing a team sport, athletes and their parents should carefully evaluate schedule conflicts that may arise due to other school activities, jobs or family vacations. If a family vacation is scheduled during a designated school break, such as Thanksgiving vacation, the holiday break in December, the midwinter break in February or spring break, the athlete will be excused from scheduled practices and/or contests by the coach, IF THE ATHLETE COMMUNICATED THIS INFORMATION TO THE COACH IN A TIMELY MANNER PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED FAMILY VACATION. The athlete must be on vacation with their parent. An athlete who claims to be on vacation with a parent and is found to have lied may be dismissed from the team by the coach. Back to Areas of Interest Athletic Academic Requirements The following academic athletic policy has been implemented for all students who compete in interscholastic athletics. Please read the policy carefully and if you have any questions please contact your coach or director of athletics. -
All in-Season Athletics Must Carry and Pass at LEAST 6 out of 8 Blocks In-season athletics who do not pass 6 out of 8 blocks at the end of four and one-half (4 1/2) weeks are ineligible for athletic competition for the next two weeks. In addition, they must attend the study table three hours per week for the next two weeks. -
All Students Who Do Not Pass 6 out of 8 Blocks at the End of a Semester are Ineligible for the ENTIRE next Semester. This is a M.H.S.A.A. regulation. Students who do not pass the four credits will be urged to attend a study table. A study plan will be established to help the student. -
All In-Season Athletes Must Have a 2-Point Grand Average at the End of Each 9-Week Marking Period. In-season athletes who do not attain a 2-point GPA for the previous 9-week marking period must attend a study table three hours per week for three weeks in order to continue their eligibility. Failure to attend the study table, raise their grade to a two point, or show satisfactory improvement will result in two weeks of ineligibility with addition study time required. -

Back to Areas of Interest Conflict Policy It is the philosophy of Northview Public Schools that students be given a chance to experience a myriad of opportunities. Because of the number of extracurricular activities available to students, the following steps shall be followed: 1. Performance shall take precedence over practice; 2. If a conflict occurs between a practice of two events, the decision will be made by the student; the student should remember that missing practice time may result in reduced playing time. 3. Every effort will be made by the conflicting event coach/advisors to remedy the conflict so as not to put the student in the position of having to make a decision. 4. There is a form for the athletes to fill out on which she/he declares which is the primary activity and which is secondary Back to Areas of Interest Vacation Policy Before pursuing a team sport, athletes and their parents should carefully evaluate schedule conflicts that may arise due to other school activities, jobs or family vacations.
